Spring Plowing Bee

Saturday April 17th was the annual horse drawn plowing bee at Colfax, Washington.

This is an event that I was interested in seeing, so we took the short trip north.  Two weeks earlier at Pomroy, Wa we witnessed two horse drawn three abreast drills seeding grain but missed the plowing.

There were about a dozen teams at the Colfax plowing, ranging in size and variety of harnessing ideas.  Most of the harness was the New England D ring farm style, like what is pictured here.

Jon Overmeyer brought his span of Percheron Mules, which are always a thrill to watch.

The ponies were not to be outdone by the big boys and this team did a wonderful job of harrowing.

Even the kids seemed to be having a wonderful time; this is one of those family events I’m sure this young fella will never forget.
